Alcoholics Anonymous

Alcoholics Anonymous is a free non-professional community peer support group for people with alcohol issues that is run by people who are also recovering from alcoholism.

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is an informal society of more than 2 million recovering alcoholics throughout the world. In Australia, there are about 18,000 members. They meet in over 2000 local meetings spread around the country.

AA works through members sharing their stories of experience (what members used to be like), strength (what happened) and hope (what members are like now). The AA program, known as The Twelve Steps, provides a framework for self-examination and a road to recovery, free of alcohol.

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership. For more information on meetings (both in person and virtual) near you, check the AA website.

Alcoholics Anonymous also offer a chat now service at www.aa.org.au.

This service is available for anyone aged 18 years and over and living in Australia.

This is a free service.
