Monash Medical Centre - Mother And Baby Unit

The Mother and Baby Unit inpatient program at the Monash Medical Centre offers specialised assessment and management of women with psychiatric illness in the postnatal period.

Six psychiatric inpatient beds and cots are provided for mothers and babies at the Monash Medical Centre (with associated community-based provision of mother/infant and postnatal depression services).

As part of this program, non-toddling infants, up to 12-months of age, are admitted with their mothers so that both the mother and the baby can receive appropriate treatment and care during this difficult period.

The Unit is made up of a multidisciplinary team, focusing on the psychiatric care of the mother, the emotional and physical development of the infant, and the interaction between the mother and the infant. Other family members are also included in the treatment plan.

A referral from a health professional is required to access this program.

This service is available to all new mothers and their babies living in South East Victoria including Dandenong, Casey, Cardinia, Monash, Bayside, Kingston.

This is a free service.
