Poisons Line - Helpline
The Poisons Information Centre has a 24-hour telephone hotline that provides poison information and toxicology advice for any individual or professional anywhere in Australia.
The Poisons Information Centre provides the latest poisons information to the public, and toxicology advice to health professionals on the management of poisoned and envenomed patients.
The telephone advice is available 24-hours, 7 days a week on 13 11 26 from anywhere in Australia.
Any call to the Poisons Centre will be answered by a pharmacist or medical scientist who is a "Specialist in Poisons Information" (SPI). All SPI's have extra training in poisons information. The SPI will look up poisoning references, decide the risk in any particular case, and can inform callers of the best advice for management.
The centre also liaises with poison centres from around Australia and the world in maintaining education, training and toxicovigilance.
