The Eastern Dual Diagnosis Service

The Eastern Health's Dual Diagnosis Service provides secondary consultations, education and training for health professionals with patients who have a dual diagnosis of mental health and substance abuse.

The Eastern Dual Diagnosis Service (EDSS) is one of four specialist dual diagnosis teams funded by the Department of Health and Human Services as an initiative which aims to support the improvement of responses of mental health and drug treatment services to individuals with a dual diagnosis of both mental illness and substance use problems.

The Eastern Dual Diagnosis Service provides the following services:

  • Consultation - primary, secondary, and tertiary consultations for staff in mental health and AOD services, who provide support and treatment to individuals with a dual diagnosis (adult, youth, and aged)
  • Education and Training - on dual diagnosis-specific issues to improve the capabilities of staff working in mental health and AOD services (adult, youth, and aged) in providing integrated assessment, treatment, and recovery
  • Service development - co-design of service improvements in partnership with people with a lived experience of mental health and alcohol and drug problems

Please note that EDDS is not a crisis service.

The Eastern Dual Diagnosis Service provides services to all staff working within the Eastern Metropolitan Region mental health and alcohol and other drug services (adult and youth).

Services are also provided to the Mental Health Community Support Services (MHCSS) in the adult sector only.

There may be fees associated with this service.
