Better Access

The Better Access initiative helps people access mental health professionals and care, with a Medicare rebate. You must visit your GP for a referral to this program.

The Better Access iniative aims to encourage more people to seek support and to improve the outcomes of people with a clinically diagnosed mental disorder through accessing evidence-based treatment.

The federal government funded initiative offers Medicare rebates to all individuals who are interested in seeking more mental health services regardless of where they live.

Support is available from eligible general practitioners (GPs) and other medical practitioners, psychologists, social workers, and occupational therapists.

Eligible people can receive up to 10 individual and up to 10 group allied mental health services each year.

The Better Access Program available to anyone with a diagnosed mental disorder. This includes many conditions, such as depression and anxiety. You must be assessed and referred to the program by your GP.

The program enables individuals who meet the eligibility criteria to access rebated mental health services.
