NDIS Local Area Coordinator (LAC) - Whittlesea

The role of the Local Area Coordinator (LAC) is to assist people with disabilities navigate the NDIS and support them to access community and mainstream services and resources.

Local Area Coordinator's work with individuals who meet the access requirements for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) to effectively access NDIS and other community programs.


The aim is to support people with disabilities by improving their access to mainstream services and increase their capability to be an active part of their community.

Local Area Coordinators will work with individuals to navigate the NDIS, to assist in identifying their goals and to develop a plan. Once the NDIS plan has been approved, Local Area Coordinators can provide information, support and assistance with getting the support services set up and working. For example, LAC can help individuals to set up their MyGov and NDIA portal account and assist with setting up a service booking.

LAC will also keep in touch with individuals and check in to see how things are going once the plan is implemented.

To access this service, individuals must meet the eligibility requirements for the NDIS. This includes:

  • Aged between 7 and 65 years
  • Live in Australia and have an Australian residency
  • Usually need support from a person because of a permanent and significant disability
  • Use special equipment because of a permanent and significant disability
  • Need some supports now to reduce their future needs

This is a free service for anyone that meets the eligibility criteria.
