Statewide Child Inpatient Unit - Austin Health

Austin Health provides mental health assessment, usually together with the family, for children with severe or persistent mental health concerns. The Austin can offer intensive inpatient treatment for these children within a safe environment.

If a child is in the Emergency Department at the Austin Hospital or admitted to hospital for medical care or surgery, and also has any emotional, psychological or psychiatric issues, they can also receive care from the Austin's Child & Youth Mental Health Service.

Austin Health aims to involve the whole family in the assessment and treatment of the child with mental health concerns. In some cases, family members may be able to stay with the child while they are in hospital.

This service is for children under 13 years old from across Victoria.
