Steps Mental Health provides free counselling, peer support, care coordination, group programs, and GPs for people with mental health issues or struggling to manage suicidal thoughts in the Inner and Outer East of Melbourne.
Steps Mental Health offers a range of different services in the Mental Health Stepped Care model.
The Mental Health Stepped Care is a model that focuses on linking individuals in with the right level of support when they need it most. It focuses on a ‘wrap-around’ approach to make sure that all of their needs are met, including physical, social, and mental health needs.
One of the main features of Mental Health Stepped Care is that it is flexible – the level of support can be ‘stepped up’ or ‘stepped down’ as the individual's needs change. The highly professional and expert staff are able to support individuals through the entire journey towards recovery.
Steps Mental Health offer a range of different types of support, including:
- Mental health nursing
- Psychology
- Mental health social work
- Peer Support with a ‘lived experience’ of mental health and recovery
Please note that this service is for non-immediate/lower urgency situations.
Eligibility Criteria
This service is for people who:
- Live, work or study in the city of Boroondara, Knox, Manningham, Maroondah, Monash, Whitehorse or Yarra Ranges.
- Need support with their mental health or emotional wellbeing from a community service
- Unable to access or afford private mental health services (such as a private psychologist)
